2 Completely Different Issues [Updated x3]

Wow. Am I confused. It seems that two seperate issue with my MacBook occurred at the exact same time.

1) I had error’s on the Macintosh HD Volume that botched an install of Apple’s latest Security Patch (Security Patch 2007-004). After installing this patch, my computer became unresponsive and kernel panic’d instantly after boot. This was cause for concern. Naturally, I tried to boot into single-user mode and run applejack, but the OSX kernel panic’d again before single-user mode could have been reached. I realized OSX needed to be reinstalled.

2) I could not boot from the DVD Drive. Naturally, because of my kernel panic issues I assumed that the two failures were related. They were not. There was some sort of sticky substance contaminating my DVD Drive. I removed the drive from the MacBook, cleaned it. And rebooted.

At this point I was able to boot from the OS X disc and get my reinstall started.

*sigh of relief*

Update 1: iWeb Install is Hanging. Not Done Yet

Well, After banging around on my dumbass MacBook, I finally got the OS X installer running and began an archive and install. When it got to the end of Disc 2, the action “Running iWeb Installer Script,” hangs. This is becomming extremely frustrating. For what it’s worth the log reads:

: run postflight script for iWeb application
: postflight [298]: No matching processes were found
: postflight [298]:

Update 2: Finally Alive

Alright. 3 or 4 beers later, my MacBook is finally alive. I ended starting Archive and Install 3 times, leaving huge amounts of systems spaces gone, but that was easily deleted. I finally ran an Archive and Install installing only the core components (Base System). I’m not sure why Apple lets/wants you to install iLife over again, but it’s really not necessary. Archive and Install just replaces the core system files, and doesn’t touch your Application or Home folders. Either way, she’s back to life.

Update 3: Short Lived

It appears that my harddrive is failing. My friend BitRocket dropped off a copy of DiskWarrior. Let’s hope it saves my ass.
